I was on board a boat nemed ""Carlsburg" back in

the late 80's which hit the reef going into Puerto Platta in the Dominican republic. By the time I used my surfboard to get out to her the owner had hired a large fishing boat to pull her off. The fishermen pulled over a 1 inch line and expected to pull with that. I kept telling them "no! no!" but they kept at it. When they started to pull I yelled at the crew to "get down!" We all got down in the cockpit hiding and the fellow looked back at us and then down at the line which was now about 1/2 in and started yelling alto!, alto!, alto! They ended up pulling in a 4 inch line which we dropped over the windless. Then we used truckers hitches to the mast, cheats and everything else we could find. We still bent the shaft on the windless but got the boat off with only one hole in the hull and no rudder. Good times, .
