Of mine hit a deadhead this summer with his cat. Rolled under the mini keel and popped up directly under the sail drive. It was pushed up into the engine. Took on a bunch of water in the eng rm but the rest of the boat was fine. New engine though and he couldn't get the same size/ type to replace it. ( no longer made). So he'll have a mismatched pair of engines come time to sell.

It's true that many cats can be holed in the ER and not sink but the repair bill isn't 'inexpensive'! Plus, although insured, the engine/ sail drive was pro-rated for depreciation for a payout far below the actual repair cost.
