because someone on this page always has the right answers I have a new question regarding the old boat I'm fixing up. I'm having to put in a new exhaust elbow. The exhaust hose was also quite old so I'm taking the opportunity to run a new one all the way to the stern from the engine. I noticed in removing the old one that the "Pot" is actually sitting in the bilge and since the bilge always has some water in it, it's literally sitting in salt water. Was this a "normal" installation back in 1976? Is this an acceptable practice? I've never had one mounted this way in the past. They were always high and dry in the engine room.
