Hi Steve,
Yeah, a lot of us have seen how wet a boat can get on the inside. One of these days, I'll expand on our attempt to get to Beveridge Reef from New Zealand. It was a wild ride thanks to a broken SSB antenna wire and our resultant inability to get grib files and weather updates. 7 days of 30-40+ kt winds and big waves before I gave it up and altered course for Tonga. Not having it during that week really drove home the value of the SSB. Once we were on the hook in Tonga a few days later and I was able to tear the boat apart, finding (and fixing) the fault, I breathed a huge sigh of relief. I was on the verge of buying a sat-phone and including it with a bunch of other stuff we were having shipped to meet us in Pago Pago.
By the way, for anyone wandering around the S. Pacific who needs stuff, American Samoa is the place to head. Being an American posession, it has a zip code and all you have to do is have stuff sent via Priority Mail and it will come in on the weekly plane. The harbor has lousy holding, but it has great protection.
