As far as the local generation of power is concerned...

Southern California is on a larger grid, but based on the power blackout in 2011... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Southwest_blackout the controls for that grid are and issue.

It really didn't matter if San Onofre was here or not. The big blackout happened during a period when the nuke plant was online... but when someone "tripped" over the big extension cord in Arizona, and the whole region went down due to the way the grid works.

Dan is somewhat right in that the whole nation is suffering from aging infrastructure. For some reason economic trickle down from the 1% doesn't seem to include the monies to keep up the maintenance costs on things like roads, bridges and power plants.

And then nature is punishing us too by providing minimal rain... of course there are certain preachers that will tie this to some doom and gloom scenario...

So cruise on... and maintain your little island... meanwhile Fair Winds.
