The bottom line on San Onofre is that it was located too close to a major population center AND was not properly maintained.... Operators wanted exceptions to their permits... for "minor steam leaks." Not a good sign overall for an industry that is too reliant on complex control.

If only they could figure out a way to locate the plant further from population and still easily cool it... Or come up with systems that shut down rather than "run away."
