Every pump I've had on my Volvos and Perkins have been puny little things that just increased the frustration of having had the engine quit. Like the Pres. says, "If you like your pump, you can keep your pump." I prefer to keep the boat as easy to manage as possible and if you can get away with a mechanical pump that's robust, gets the job done and is easy to get at then that may be the way to go. I've had to change out my electrical pump twice to 23 years which means an additional spare part to carry. A manual might last longer. I would still need the electrical pump to fill my heater day tank though. Pumping 2 gallons of diesel with even a good manual pump would be a bit problematic.
