Anyone with experience with riding sails

Like most boats, Milvina (47 ft cutter) sails all over the place when anchored in winds over about 25 knots.
By far the greatest load on the anchor is when she sheers off about 30 degrees, sailing forward a bit, and is then stopped short by the anchor rode (we have 40 m chain and then rope)

One sailor I met had great success on his 40 footer with a riding sail. Says his boat sits head to wind in a strong blow.

A sailmaker here is trying to sell me a double riding sail. It would hoist on the main halyard, and have a "wing" tied off to each quarter. Ideally each side would be slightly angled to the wind and remain full, with no thrashing about.

I would like to hear from others with experience of riding sails in a sloop or cutter, in strong winds
