my pilot house, solar panels, wind generator, Barbeque, Davits and MOB pole is to much for my anchor already. I seems really counter intuitive to ask my anchor to actually deal with a sail as well. In a blow I'm always trying to reduce wind load, not add to it. I like, I think it was Jon's idea, of dropping my spare bow anchor off the bow to drag back and forth to slow the boat from sailing at anchor. I'm not so sure I would put it all the way to the bottom but 20 feet in 25 feet of water doesn't sound like a bad idea. A boat like mine, full keel with lots of stuff in the stern anyway, doesn't seem to sail around that much anyway. Jon, is dropping the anchor just theory or have you actually tried it and had some degree of luck with it that you could hold up as empirical knowledge or is it just theory, independence of observation? I'm always looking for what you might call, "little tricks" to put into my bag of ad libed, extemporized, bail outs. In theory, it sounds like it would work.
