I was aboard the first W-46 years ago at Annapolis, and the phrase "work of art" barely begins to do it justice...

Hi Bruce,

A fire on a boat like that is especially surprising, given the quality of construction, and the fact that they appear to be pretty SIMPLE boats with minimal 'accessorizing'... They were under sail at the time, not even running the engine, so one would have to think a galley stove fire might have been the most plausible cause, no?

What a shame, the loss of such a beauty... If there's one consolation, I suppose it's in the fact that Wendy Schmidt is not likely to have much difficulty coming up with the funds for a replacement, she's lucking than that blind sailor in Hawaii, in that regard... (grin)

best regards,

Jon
