It's a slippery slope

Gene, if you keep the boat at the dock you might be OK with it, but that's a lot of amps to feed away from the dock. You know the deal about power consumption vs. power conservation, and power budgets, so I won't get into that.

My boat came with small fridge that draws about 3A at roughly 50% duty cycle. It takes almost $2k worth of batteries/solar to be self-sustaining if I leave it running on the mooring, which I do. (Gotta have cold beer!)

We also have a large ice chest that's built-in, we use when we cruise on vacations. $8-10 worth of ice is good for about 3+ days, and refresh is available at almost every marina. Needless to say I have no plans to install a second compressor and cold plate into that space. We use the electric fridge for easy-access to partial-full drink bottles, and small items (with a few items in the tiny freezer). The rest goes in the cooler.
