We ran the generator 2 hours a day to do all the stuff. We recharged betteries, ran air conditioning (if only to dry the boat) heated water, made ice and anything else. I found that after you get to a certain size it's just easier to burn a 1/2 gallon of diesel than it is to spend a the time, effort and money to be self sufficient.
I wanted hot water. We liked a dry boat. Neither of us wanted to count amps. We just had a big battery bank and kept it between 50 and 85% charged running the generator 2 hours a day.
225-275 amps a day used. No worries, if it went down we would rough it, but it never did.
