Two nice things about AIS: low power and no radar detector interference

The AIS uses virtually no power so it is on whenever I am underway and a lot of time when I am not. The radar though uses power, and also when it is actually running it triggers the SeaMe transponder and idiot light. So its detection feature (you are being scanned by radar) is rendered useless when on.
