I've watched them come at us with speed. You can't really do anything. I have a fog horn speaker, but NO ONE seems to use those. I turned it on a few times, it only seemed to block the ability to hear other boats -- and several people in Maine scoffed at me, pointing out that the lobster boats have their music, their engines running, etc.
I do believe that as Paul Dunn said: "They see you. They're just checking you out. That's why they come so close in the thick fog." It's that, or they're just crazy and wish to scare the crap out of you.
