You don't realize how big the world is until you move across it's surface at 6 knots for days at a time without seemingly going anywhere.
With no land in site for days the only reference you have is your position on a chart. When you look around there's nothing to gauge your progress, only your wake, the sun, sky & water. Everything else goes away.
Then you fly across the same area at 30,000 feet & 400mph and think to yourself, damn! That was my favorite part of passage making, being alone on a huge ocean, the only humans in existance are on the boat while you're seemingly going nowhere but at the same time you know your moving across the Earths surface.
Very weird and very cool!
