thanks everyone. Max, that was what I was talking about with Bud Taplin

I have read that people have shortened the boom a foot or so and the foot of the sail as well. Seems to help with weather helm by moving the center of effort forward just a bit. I think the boom is pretty heavy duty, but have yet to really check it out. Obviously, the bails would have to be spread out and as far aft as possible.

I just want a sail that is easy enough for me to want to use it a lot. This will also get me some shade which I desperately need. I have an awning that starts at the mast and goes aft, just like a Shadetree (self built) and it stays up in the Bahamas more that I would like to admit. It is just too hot in the sun in late spring/early summer.

I was hoping the midboom on the coachroof would keep me from needing a vang immediately. I already have winches on the cabin house and line stoppers, with lots of cheek blocks on the deck that I could use for reefing.

thanks for all the help everyone. Please keep the suggestions coming. There is a lot of experience on this board and I really appreciate the input.
