Is to hold them away from the mast with shock cord. I use two short lengths with the outboard end attached to the end of the spreader. The upper line of the lazy jack is run through a ring seized onto the inboard end of the shock cord. The key is to have just enough tension to hold the lazy jack away from the mast when raising the main. It's a quick solution. The only downside is that the shock cord is only good for two ore three seasons.
