We have similar low aspect mains. Here's my mistakes for you.

I didn't want to add a slapping line to the mast so I ran my turning blocks to the spreaders. Mounting them 6" outboard and they're silent.

Despite rigging 4 legs at the boom, the aft 5 or so feet of the first long batten(mine are full), sloughs off the boom. The aft leg is far enough to capture the batten, but the angle of the leg is too shallow to contain it without some help. That aft sail area, full batten or not, is the problem area.

I want to be able to drop the main from the mast and have it completely contained by the jacks. Using cheap nylon, I won't stop until I achieve this.

Here's how I expect to improve this spring:I'll raise the Lazy jack turning blocks up the mast. Quite a bit in fact. A much more upright angle to the aft leg has a better chance of channeling the lowest-longest batten.

I don't see any reason I shouldn't mount a little fairlead on each spreader to direct the main lazy jack lines off the mast. That would solve my initial concern with a flapping line above the spreaders.

The forward 2/3rds work great and require no assistance to keep the sail on top of the boom for easy flaking-tieing.
