on the beach one after noon and ran into some Mexican kids on some quad runners picking up stuff from under plywood boards and wire screens. We went over to see what they were up and found out they were harvesting turtles. The plywood and wire screens were placed over the nests to keep the raccoon and other creatures from raiding the nests. They would come by every day and check each nest and collect the baby turtles that were ready to go and in the late afternoon, launch them. We got to take part on one of the" launches" and it was like herding cats. Tons of fun to watch the little critters run for the water. At least some of them ran for the water. The others, not so much. We eventually got them all pointed in the right direction and into the water. When I sailed through Mexico back in the 80's we didn't see one turtle until we reached Costa Rica, maybe Honduras. Now you see them all the time. They have made a huge comeback with the help of kids like these all over Mexico. Good for them!
