Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

It's a wonderful feeling to supply all your power needs, as a byproduct of propulsion.

And propel with engines, we do as sailors. It's inevitable as most of us have places to go, things to do as we turn alternators, refrigeration compressors and even tap some of the lost heat for domestic hot water and space heating getting from A to B.

And then we have energy storage onboard to put away some of that excess energy for later use, batteries, coolers, hot water storage.

These days we can add alternative power sources to extend our energy surplus.

It's a unique way of life especially in a world that can't stop increasing energy consumption. Sailors and their sailboats were a lot like the Hybrid cars long before the Prius was invented.

But a Prius owner will never get into town using the wind for propulsion. They have no idea what that's like. We can be the closest thing to a net-zero living-traveling vehicle, that was ever invented.

How am I doing?
