Believe me when I say I am sensative to the issues of noise (and smell)!
Diesel gen sets, main engines running to charge batteries, Honda generators, wind generators... All have their place and all can be obnoxious!
We try hard to be sensative to these issues and understand that opinions vary.
My personal preference is to charge mid morning if I have a choice. I avoid cocktail hours and meal times like the plague.

On a side note, we just got back from a 5 week Airstream trip to the South where I posted a little video on Facebook of an incredibly loud, obnoxious generator session by another camper in Flamingo national park. Can't upload videos directly here so I can't share it with you but suffice to say that if that guy persisted in running that generator another day I would have taken up a collection and easily come up with enough funds to purchase a nice Honda or Yamahs generator. The worse part was he started it at 4:00 pm and ran it until the 9:00pm curfew. Nobody could sit outside through the noise...

Sigh...
