When you mentioned Presque Isle Bay -- There is one off of Lake Superior below Stockton Island in the Apostle Islands. I was sailing there on a chartered boat with a bunch of guys when I first started sailing a bunch of years ago.
If any of you want to enjoy fresh water, blue water sailing where you can drink the water out of the lake, see the depth sounder stop being able to find the bottom, not have to worry about sweating (except from some trepidation about storms), etc. -- try Superior and the Apostle Islands. It makes swimming in Maine look like taking a warm bath.
Beyond that -- the Lake Erie area Presque Isle Bay got some press about pollution: http://www.epa.gov/greatlakes/aoc/presque/index.html
Can you safely swim there?
