I've had good luck with two types
In Response To: The best manual head? ()

I had a manual Lavac for years and love those heads. The big, simple Henderson pump never clogs, and the head itself has few problems as long as you let vinegar/fresh water or similar sit in the outlet lines occasionally, as you would with any head to lessen calcium buildup. They are also fairly 'aesthetically friendly' since you close the lid to flush. Really, really liked that head in conjunction with a holding tank that allowed gravity drain as well as deck pump out.

We switched to a composting head a couple years ago and for me and my wife this is the best solution. It too is aesthetically friendly, has no odor if used properly, is about as simple and trouble free as you can get. I'm pretty sure there are some threads about it if you search the thread.
