Dunno about the timing for this thread. Always good to plan ahead! I drain the tanks with a pump... 
In Response To: I think I posted last fall about how the yard did ()
and wipe them out. Then I disconnect and drain the hot water heater. The hot water hose gets joined with a union to bypass the heater. Finally I snap in a short hose to the water line after the each tank and let the freshwater pump run the pink stuff through the system. In the spring I lightly bleach the whole system.
