I was always told to crimp if the amp draw was going to be high
In Response To: Solder vs. crimp connectors ()

As someone who used to solder everything, when putting in the new electrical system in our old Catalina I was told by an old timer that a crimp was always better than a solder connection if the circuit was going to be subject to high loads. The reasoning was that high loads could generate sufficient heat to make the lead solder soft and allow the connection to fail. Such things as primary power supply wires to bus bars and battery cables were always suppose to be crimped connectors where such things as instruments, stereos, etc could be soldered if the connection was also shrink wrapped to keep moisture and corrosion out.
