We had a great davit setup. It only took a minute to raise or lower it and we left the engine on, even on passages. We also used it as a garage to put all the aft deck crap in on passage. The only down side as I see it is with all that weight past the hull we had more hobby-horseing than if it was midships.

We had 500 lbs of chain in the forepeak anyway. A lot of weight at both ends.
