When underway, I don't leave the cockpit without an inflatable belt pack, a GPS-enabled DSC VHF, and a PLB. The boat is unsinkable but is equipped with EPIRB that should auto-deploy if we capsize.

I view the pyrotechnics as "locate" devices, and I only buy SOLAS grade stuff. I keep the old outdated ones at the top of the box, so they get used first (if they get used).

I think I've got it covered, so far as the "get help" part of the picture. More importantly, I try not to need help.
