Sure, I've seen it done
In Response To: DQOTD - can industrial aluminum tubing be used for a whisker pole? ()
One of the boats I race on has a 6061 aluminum tubing whisker pole. The owner of the boat bought the end fittings and cut a piece of aluminum tube to fit. He owns a metal supply store so he gets the tube pretty cheap.
