Both of the cameras you mention seem a big leap from a cell phone, but I don't know what you have for a phone. Personally, my DSLR doesn't go on the boat - too prone to 'accidents'. My walking around camera (and boat camera) is a point & shoot - a Panasonic Lumix TZ-4. I consider it disposable and it takes photos as good as I want or expect - often better.
