From Kauai to Astoria OR. Of course we were on a smaller boat and an Archer 32' double ender at that with its fat ends and 11' beam. We had to swing wide, sweet chariot, around the high and I swear we went right through the middle of of the Coriolis. On a calm day with a nearly calm sea we hit a patch about 1000' in diameter of total slick. In it was more flotsam and jetsam than Carter had pills and seven plastic floats. Now I could be mistaken but I'd swear that calm patch was just a little deeper than surrounding waters. I'd swear!

We did have 24 hours of gale with seas from three different directions breaking on our slow boat. As it was going in our direction we ran before it with reefed staysail, a lashed down main boom, and hour on, hour off watches as it so tiring to swing that big tiller.
