I wonder if the company (Donald Tofias), thought the W-class would be a more popular slice of sailboat racing? There are a pair of 76'ers and now 4 of these 46's, a few 37's. Their latest offering, W-22's, of which two were built this year in Rockport. They also have plans for the W-100 but I don't think anyone has signed for one, yet. I doubt there were ever ideas of big fleets of these boats, they're quite specialized.
What I wonder when I see designs like these (there's nothing really new in new sailboat concepts-as you say), is, will they stand the test of time. They all stay around for a few years, but then the chafe is forgotten and only a few ideas and sailboat designs/concepts become timeless enough to keep up interest. W-class and the "Spirit of Tradition" designs, are holding their own. Never be mainstream(but what part of sailing is or will be?)
Racing is still the biggest part of sailing(it seems), just as it has been since the first race.
