I think the W-class was an interesting idea-- get a group of similar, classic looking beauties to travel around together and form the basis of events and appreciation of wooden beauty. The boats are a nice evolution from the old meter class of boats but not high performing as we know it today. The latest W 46 is actually a replacement for one that burned and sank a year or so ago off Rhode Island. (apparent battery / engine compartment fire). So there are still only 3 and still the original interested people (i.e. it's not new interest in the class/concept, unfortunately).
The 76 strikes all the right boxes for me aesthetically, but I have no interest in that large a boat, nor pockets deep enough even if I did. I've not been able to understand the W-22 interest. Okay, so I get that a smaller W-class was of interest, but there are so many other designs both old and new that I would have chosen before that one. The only connection is the Joel White connection so perhaps that's what more of this is about...?
