Then this occurred to me.

Because the panel is deeply inset, there is more than enough space outside of the gauges and switches, to slide a tablet in there. It leans back at about 20+ degrees. In this photo, the lens is about eye height - sitting just forward of the binnacle(my usual spot protected by the dodger).

I think I'll add a 12V receptacle above the tablet in the ignition panel, and insert a dual USB plug.

When convenient, the tablet could be out the way (I've yet to find a good spot), but visible. If it's raining - or conditions are rough - it'll stay dry. And why not be charging the device while it's in there? In fact, you can have a phone charging - safe and dry - at the same time, and running a different nav app(iphone here is running Navionics with the satellite overlay - tablet running blue chart).

Maybe a movie, while the gulf of Maine?
