Well, since I am 12 yrs into a five year plan to go away,
In Response To: Plan to go south (S. Pacific) in a few years, so all chain (plus a lot of rope) is our set up ()

I'm thinking switch the gypsy, because it is a great improvement when it is needed most. Buy 25' of chain that fits and use it with 300' of nylon three strand. When you know you are leaving next month, buy all chain.

Better yet, buy all chain when you get somewhere you need it.
