It is not unusual to anchor in 60+ feet. I like at least 5 to one scope and carry 300 ft of 5/16 chain. I have been using 5/16 HT all my cruising live and It has never failed. Too much weight forward will affect you sailing performance significantly. Including the windlass, two anchors, two shots of chain I have about 600 pounds sitting within four feet of the bow. More that I want. I would not want heavier chain.
