• Chain length/catenary vs. weight for anchor rode --shorter length of 3/8" vs. longer and equal weight length of 5/16"
  • The only possible 2 reasons I see requiring all chain
    • Plan to go south (S. Pacific) in a few years, so all chain (plus a lot of rope) is our set up
      • Well, since I am 12 yrs into a five year plan to go away,
        • Well,since I'm 1.5 months past the end of a five-month shakedown cruise
          • You need length...
            • All else being equal, I'd vote for longer chain

  • From my experience -- The chain has to EXACTLY match the gypsy

    • I doubt it --it's a 20 year old (but I rebuilt/refurbished it) Simpson Lawrence Sea Tiger 555...only specialized spares

    • Sorry --maybe my question isn't clear: I know the gypsy must match the chain (and that 10mm isn't the same as 3/8")
  • You might be able to use the same gypsy for both 5/16" and 3/8" chain...
