I doubt it --it's a 20 year old (but I rebuilt/refurbished it) Simpson Lawrence Sea Tiger 555...only specialized spares

Chain length/catenary vs. weight for anchor rode --shorter length of 3/8" vs. longer and equal weight length of 5/16"
The only possible 2 reasons I see requiring all chain
Plan to go south (S. Pacific) in a few years, so all chain (plus a lot of rope) is our set up
Well, since I am 12 yrs into a five year plan to go away,
Well,since I'm 1.5 months past the end of a five-month shakedown cruise
You need length...
All else being equal, I'd vote for longer chain
Thanks for the opinions...and sorry to start another "anchoring thread"...but this is something I'm puzzling over. (nm)
Anchor thread, gun thread... now we need a Cuba thread to round things out. :-) (nm)
Cuba? I hear things are looking up...
And more cruising info showing up on the web. (nm) (pic)
Sure Jud. (nm)
Yes, longer is better than just weight for weight's sake. (nm)
Not just coral- there is a lot of rock out there....
Gee - I can think of at least six good reasons! (nm)
All chain is also good to piss off the wimps that use rope rode :D (nm)

Stick with all chain ...
Sorry --maybe my question isn't clear: I know the gypsy must match the chain (and that 10mm isn't the same as 3/8")
You might be able to use the same gypsy for both 5/16" and 3/8" chain...
Thanks, Todd...hadn't realized that chain type had anything to do with it, that both chain sizes might work
On chain sizes...
Where can you get 200' of 3/8" chain delivered for $700 (US$)?
Goggle anchor chain
Defender is probably about $4/FT for real ACCO G4 HT Chain
I was just guessing a minimum price
I couldn't have quoted it either -- I was surprised at the price too. (nm)
Try Fastenal
The length you have in the locker (200') is not important
You are buying sleep! We need to know the size of your boat and her windage for a start . . . (pic)
