My seven year old daughter has been on a horse loving forum typing two finger hunt and peck for a year. For her 7th birthday, I got her a copy of "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing." She does a lesson every day during her computer time allotment and is now typing 30 wpm and loving "speed typing."

I took typing twice in high school and once in college and both times couldn't get over 25 wpm. It wasn't until the proliferation of computers that I began to write for a living on them and really learned to type. When I'm in a groove, I type about 70 wpm, now. My daughter will probably be doing that within the year.
