This is Grand Bruit (locally pronounced "Grand Brit") -- it means "big noise" in French, because of the waterfall in the center of town. Sadly, this town is in its death throes. The school closed down last Spring, the children are all gone, and the community voted to close down and disband. The only grocery store in town was shuttered when we got there in August. They are just waiting to see if the Canadian government will accept their vote to relocate and buy out the residents. It's a real shame, since this is a picturesque little town, with colorful houses, open paths, and great hiking nearby.
