Electricity production be it burning coal or oil, damming a river or breaking atoms is messy business each with it's own serious down side. These large scale wind power projects are new to Maine and we've embraced it with a vengeance. I'm just wondering how carefully the town and state boards, charged with reviewing the pros and cons of wind power farms, are doing their jobs. At the moment we seem to be in a headlong race to get as many of these things up and online as quickly possible. It's probably a good thing but I simply don't know.
Several years ago a friend toured Germany with his German fiance. He says that (at that time) the German landscape was littered with abandoned, no longer productive, wind generators. Perhaps this is no longer the case. I suppose windy real estate is has too much value these days to let lie unused.
