I didn't listen to the whole video and couldn't see the sail on the mast. But it's vastly improved. Still, the fact is this rig will not be popping up on many boats soon. Still, like the bizarre clothes that come down the runway in Paris every year, some often find their way into mainstream style.
I'm not sure if there's anything here but time will tell. I love to see new ideas tried, even if they're wrong.
On the other hand, I love old boats, obviously, and own one. It's just about 50 years old and compared to todays 38' racer/cruiser performance has not changed all that much, not at all in many new designs.
While rig innovation has made sail handling much easier (I'm grateful for that) and increased efficiency, I'm not all that impressed with the amount of increased performance touted by the industry. It just isn't all that startling.
