Our 'foam luff' flattened out after 4 years and is now useless for holding shape. I understand that there are other methods of creating shape when furling. One manufacturer uses a sort of 'rope luff' which can't disintegrate.

From our experience, if you do go with some sort of material for partially reefing the headsail look into something other than foam.
