I have dual wired windlass controls (bow and helm) and when at the helm can use the bow thruster to control veering. I stay at the helm unless the windlass mis-feeds on the rope (happens only rarely, maybe 1 in 10). Like cchesley I also have rope/chain but I did my own splice and was careful about the taper, so it usually passes through OK. I usually pause the process and go to the bow when the chain starts coming up to see how muddy it is and may wash it down as it comes up, assuming conditions are not too boisterous.
