I have a lot of gadgets on the boat, but there is a mechanical backup for pretty much every one. And often a backup for the backup. Technology isn't inherently scary, it is technology's non-graceful failure that is. We like mechanical systems because their failure is more likely graceful (meaning progressive, slow, and with warning). Electronic technology can be the same, if only it was designed properly to begin with. Often it isn't, but that's not technologies fault.
