Hi Jeremy,
Simply starting some of these freakin' things is akin to initiating a Space Shuttle launch, more than once I've had to call someone at tech support to get an engine started, if you make an error in the sequence of operations, you can really be screwed...
Did you ever hear the story of the sportfisherman that started itself up one night at the Roscioli yard in Lauderdale?
About 10 years ago, if memory serves... Something went amiss, most likely moisture creating a short or something, and one of the engines managed to start itself... Ordinarily, that would not necessarily be a problem, just something weird... But, in this case, the gear levers were placed in the FORWARD position - the canvas guy who made the cover for the helmstation on the bridge screwed up, and the only way the cover would fit were if the shifters and throttles were laid down... LOL! Neutral safety switch should have prevented it from happening, of course, but something went REALLY wrong...
Well, all of a sudden this boat has one of its 800 HP engines in gear... It tears itself free of its slip, and proceeds to run amok in the basin, t-boning a $3 million Donzi sportfish among several other boats, I think the total amount of damage done was well in excess of a million dollars... I'll bet the night watchman got a good story out of that one... (grin)
best regards,
Jon
