Last month we hit a reef at almost 6 knots.

We were coming into the Robinsons in San Blas under full headsail traveling just short of 6 knots down wind. As we approached the clear water became murky and I started having trouble reading the water so we quickly decided to furl the headsail and start the engine. No sooner had I said that then we hit the reef. Charts had us going through the middle of a 600 foot wide pass but we hit it anyway. Just caught the edge. I spun the wheel and the boat rotated into deep water. A guy in a panga pointed to the right. I guess that's where we should have been.

No damage except for a few nice scratches on the bottom of the keel and a lot more paint scraped off.

I know, I should have dropped the headsail sooner but we were sailing so nicely I wanted to continue for as long as I could.

I like incapsulated lead keels. Sorry reef.
