First suggestion is to install the electric pump a few inches above the level you can easily pump down to manually.
that way, it will not normally get wet and corroded, but will kick in if you have a serious leak
2nd is to wire it with a suitable fuse from the hot side of your main breaker(s) so that you can switch the boat off, but the pump will still work when you are away.
3rd Make sure you will know if the pump it on. A light, noise or whatever. That way it is an alarm too, before you have water above the floorboards, or a fresh water leak has emptied you tanks.
Finally, be sure the discharge cannot cause water to run back. That implies being routed well above the waterline, and not too far from the boat's centreline. Ours used to cause a little back flow when going very fast downwind. Not remotely dangerous, but a PITA
