And can you offer any hints to a first time brightwork refinisher?

My brightwork is in a variety of conditions... some in quite good shape, other areas with peeling varnish that needs immediate attention. Of course I want to maintain and improve what I can. I am planning on canvas covers where it makes sense, so that should help a bit, but I have to get the brightwork in shape first.
