A pic would help.

We have varnished steps with Ultimate Sole. Don't know if they're in business yet or not. None skid in bare feet. If they're wet we can slide but we tend to be overly careful when we're sailing and going up or down the companionway.

This is how I see it. Change the steps to raw teak and oil or wash regular. Put raw teak strips on the steps and oil or wash often. But some softer wood slightly proud. Use Ultimate Sole varnish. You may be lucky and find some in a chandlery somewhere.
