My boat doesn't sail worth a damn on main alone...

I generally approach the mooring under jib and mizzen with the main down. I can then slow the boat by progressively rolling the genoa up as I approach the mooring. I roll it the last few turns after I make the final turn to the mooring. Catching the mooring is usually pretty easy unless I slowed the boat too much. I have had the boat stop two feet too far from the mooring more than I like. That entails walking aft and rolling a bit of jib out to make another approach.
